Yesterday, a 10 year-old girl carried out a suicide attack in the town of Damaturu in Yobe state in north-eastern Nigeria. The bomb killed at least 16 people and wounded 50, police said. The attack took place just near a crowded market in the city.

So far no group has taken responsibility for the attack but it is presumed that Boko Haram may be the behind the bombing due to similar attacks carried out by the group in recent months.

The BBC reported that Toyin Gbadegesin, Yobe police spokesman, said that the attack was carried out on Sunday morning.

He said that the girl detonated the explosives in the crowd of people who were being screened by security forces before they were allowed to enter the market.

Earlier this month two female suicide bombers, also aged about 10, killed people waiting to say their prayers for the Muslim festival of Eid.
